Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may have debuted to strong numbers, but it looks like DC is intent on keeping their small screen comic book dominance intact. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s premiere becoming the highest rated drama debut in 4 years, we’re thinking the folks at DC might be a little nervous today. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been dominating the big screen, and now they are primed to be top dog on the small screen too? DC has been the leader of comic book heroes on television for years with hits like Smallville and Arrow, so it’s reasonable for them to be a little weary. But just a little, because Deadline reports that they will be heading to Gotham City for their next foray into television with a new series appropriately titled, Gotham. The series will be an origin story for Commissioner James Gordon during his time as a detective for the Gotham City Police Department. The show will reportedly feature various well known villains in a pre-Batman Gotham City. The series comes from The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller and will debut on Fox sometime next year. This will potentially be the third DC character to arrive on television. Arrow is currently in its second season and will introduce Flash in hopes of launching a new series for that character as well, though Gotham will not share the same universe as those two shows. A Wonder Woman series is also currently in development, but no word on when or if it will see the light of day. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Gotham set series on the small screen. Birds of Prey aired in 2002 and focused on a future Gotham where the daughter of Batman and Catwoman took over protecting the city with the help of a wheelchair bound Batgirl. That series only lasted one season. So who’s excited for Gotham and do you think a series focusing on Gordon will work? Share your thoughts below, on Facebook or over on Twitter @ClevverMovies. Until next time, I’m Erin White, thanks for watching!
