Whatever happened to all of those rumors that Marvel’s Runaways was headed to the big screen? There was a point in time when Runaways was prepped and ready to head into production, with Lost producer Brian K Vaughan behind the project. But it quickly got shelved because a little movie called The Avengers. That’s according to Iron Man 3’s co-writer, Drew Pearce who was chatting about the project during a podcast Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith. Pearce said quote “Oddly, [The Avengers] pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe”. Runaways” follows a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are secretly supervillains. Using their own powers, the kids then go after their parents and vow to bring other villains to justice. Pearce wrote the script, which was his first screenplay for Marvel, and he says that the story is brilliant and that he’s extremely proud of it. Iron Man 3’s director, Shane Black, agreed saying that the script is one of the better scripts that is sitting on a shelf right now. But what does that mean for the future of Runaways? Pearce is hopeful that the movie will one day get made, and he seems to be crossing his fingers for a Phase Three spot, but Black isn’t as hopeful for the project saying that there are so many other films in progress, that it would likely be three or more years down the road before Marvel would even get around to looking at it again. So, it sounds like we shouldn’t be holding our breath for a Runaways release any time soon, but if you really want to see Runaways chat with us about it here or over on twitter at ClevverMovies, and maybe Marvel President, Kevin Feige will hear your plea. Thank you all so much for watching ClevverMovies, Im Erin White and Ill see you soon.
